Why is it so hard to blog? I want to, and I have time to, but I don't usually end up blogging...obviously.
It snowed here today. I think it's our third official snow fall of the
winter, yeah it's pretty pathetic. I woke up to big beautiful flakes
falling from the sky. It reminded me of Alaska. I even looked around
the open fields for a moose, but then I remembered where I was. Sigh.
New Mexico is beautiful, but it's very different as you can imagine.
Anyways, Aisley just had to play in the snow this morning and who was I
to say no?
My little Alaskan snow baby felt right at home.
We HAD to build a snowman. You can't ever not take advantage of an opportunity like this! We had about 3 inches of packing snow on the ground. It's the most snow we've seen so far. The last time it snowed two inches and they delayed school by 2 hours. I thought it was hilarious. All of the snow had melted by 11 am. Today though, it didn't start snowing early enough so Ila went to school on time. The snow today lasted until about 2 pm then we were back to seeing dead grass everywhere.
I think this is the first time I've shown Achilles, our dog, to you. He's a miniature dachshund. He's almost a year old so I'm hoping he's about full grown. The girls LOVE him. I like him too but I hate having to vacuum up dog hair, and he doesn't even shed that much but it still bugs me. He is an excellent dog. He doesn't bark, doesn't chew on things unless it's his toys, is potty trained, and he tolerates the abuse Aisley puts him through on a daily basis. She really loves him, but she's 2, which should explain everything.
Aisley was very intrigued that there was a carrot on the snowman. She tried to eat it. Ila DID eat the carrot when she got home, eww... hopefully it didn't fall on a dirty patch of dirt when the snow melted.
Feeling our Alaskan pride surge Jon and I decided to build a big snowman in the front yard for all the neighbors to see. I thought it funny and fitting that our snowmen had tumble weed arms. We are definitely in New Mexico!
On Saturday we went to a birthday party that was 45 minutes away. So we were driving along the highway surrounded by fields and dairy's. Seriously there is a dairy on every road spaced out about 2-5 miles apart here, no joke. Okay, back to my story. So we are driving home and it's pretty windy. No surprise there, it's always windy here. But it was REALLY windy. There were times we couldn't see in front of us more than 10 feet because of all the dust being blown past the car. The tumble weeds were insane! I have never seen that many tumble weeds blowing across the road. We couldn't swerve for them, so we just hit several as we drove home. There were hundreds of tumble weeds rolling in the wind. It was like a scene from a movie. Instead of snow drifts and berms we get tumble weed berms here. We drove on one road that was pretty wide, but there was only one car width space for us to drive through the huge pile of tumble weeds that had accumulated. I'm glad I don't have to go and remove them from the fences and roads, what a yucky job that must be. Someone told me that they get these huge tumble weeds that are lots of little ones stuck together, like HUGE as big as a car tumbleweed rolling down the interstate. I haven't seen one yet, but I'm sure I will before we leave. I just hope I don't hit that one.
