The Perfect Distraction

Alaska in winter provides many, many hours of peaceful reflection.  From my own back yard I was privileged to have a beautiful view of an untouched forest.  Last winter I had many things to contemplate.  Big things.  An upcoming move weighed heavily on my mind, along with the typical mom worries of daily life.  When one of my best friends found out she was expecting another baby I immediately announced that I would be throwing her baby shower.  I had to stake my claim before anyone else had the chance.  Not only did I want to plan this party for my dear friend, but I desperately needed a distraction to focus on.  For months I poured over idea's I'd found online.  This baby shower had to be perfect.  I've never thrown a big party before, although I'd always wanted to.  I reserved a cabin in the wilderness, nestled in the trees next to a snow covered lake.  The Green Lake Chalet provided the most amazing atmosphere to celebrate the upcoming arrival of a very special little boy.
When Carrie, my dear sweet friend walked in she started crying.  I have to admit that was my goal, I wanted her to cry.  I wanted it to be so beautiful that she couldn't have imagined it.  I was very secretive in planning everything.  I'd ask her random questions about things to see if she liked something, but I was very vague so she never could figure out what I was up to.  I had two accomplices to help me, Lauren and Jaime, they kept my secrets well.  I went for a rustic but elegant theme (if that's even possible.)  We had burlap table runners with mason jars to drink from with white and green striped straws.  The colors were lime green, blue, and brown.  Yellow flowers with bright greenery and sliced limes in the bottom of the jar were spread along the tables.  Lunch was served, presents were opened and I hope everyone who came had a wonderful time.  I truly loved planning this baby shower.  I'm excited to share it with you and hope you all like it too!  Lucky for me Carrie is a professional photographer, her pictures are always beautiful!

I used lime green chevron's as part of my inspiration for the baby shower so I wanted to make a chevron quilt for baby Ryker.  Sewing is my other perfect distraction.  I'd never made a quilt with a chevron (zig zag) pattern so I was excited this one turned out so well.

Carrie, Lauren, Jaime, and I have done so many fun things together.  Our very own family in Alaska if you will.  I love these girls!  I'm so glad we all lived in Alaska together.  We spent countless hours doing play dates, crafts, girls nights, pedicures, movies, baby showers, and most importantly being there for each other when life got a little stressful and we needed someone to be there.

I also want to give a shout out to my awesome hubby who helped me clean the cabin before and after the  shower, helped set up everything, and babysat the kids upstairs in the loft while us girls enjoyed the party.

that was a super fun day! I don't think I'll ever go to another shower that will top that. You planned and perfected every last detail!

You totally took my breath away with this one missy. We're all lucky to have you as a friend, if I didn't love ya so much I just may be overtaken with jealousy. Instead I'll live in awe.
