Do you see how dismal and boring my living room is? It used to be worse! We just got the rug, it's added a lot of personality to my little living room. You see, I don't want to buy any furniture that I'm not willing to move again, in about 2 1/2 yrs. So, I'm worried about gaining more house weight, and also concerned about how much space we will have in our new future home. Who knows where it will be. I've put a ban on myself, no buying any furniture. It's been horrible! I see my house, which is nice, but, there are a few pieces of furniture that I would like to add. I guess I'm just stuck with my plain old room. However, after we added the rug, which was free, I decided that we HAD to paint. And that means that we painted the very same day. I think my best decisions are ones made quickly and then followed through immediately. This might seem careless to some, but I can explain. If I am willing to make a decision right away, then it must be a good one because I like to change my mind a lot and I go back and forth for a while. Then, if I make a decision and I don't act on it quickly, it will take approximately 3 to 6 months for me to actually get it done. (I have friends who can confirm this.) So, by doing this right away, it was just perfect.
Ila needed to help, even though it was after bed time. She was very happy to be of service. Such a good helper she is. I will also add that she is the cleanest kid I know. She didn't get one drop of paint on her or her clothes. That's amazing all by itself.
Here's my two hard workers. Jon and I have painted enough walls together that we have perfected our technique. I tape everything off. He covers the floor. I paint around the edges and in the corners. He paints the whole wall. It's worked great for us so far. Do you see how detailed Ila's section is? I couldn't possibly cover it up, except that it was in one corner of the wall, and not aligned with anything in the room, and it would have been covered by a couch.
So instead of fretting about what to put in this wall space, across from our now lovely yellow wall, we let Ila paint a blank canvas and even figured out how NOT to use nails when putting up a piece of art. Amazing. She declared that she created a Choo Choo Train. We love it! I couldn't even name a price. Truly one of a kind.
I'm thinking of having Jon make a frame to put around this. I think it would really pop out if it had a frame.
I signed her art for her. She is still working on her handwriting, she's only three you know.

I love it! And yes, definitely the masterpiece on the wall needs a frame. Way to go with the flow and take charge to get it done the same day.
I think it looks great and how fun that you let Ila have her own spot. My kids helped me paint too and I just painted over it though I loved their art work. I wish I could have them recreate it. It was so fun.
Looks so cute! Good work. I'm most interested in this nap time you speak of. Sounds glorious. :) Cold and dark all day? Not so glorious.
Wow, I am not ususally a fan of bright yellow, but I love it! You got skills! And I liked your living room before, but the paint does help. How is it having 2 kids?
oh you've so been holding out on me. your living room is so cute! i love the colors, i smell an interior designer!
I love it!!! I can definitely relate to the idea of projects and then the constant mind changing or 3-6 mths to never getting around to it. I love the idea of just acting on it right away. And great job Ila. How fun!
