Whew ... We Made It

We got to Anchorage safe and sound. We are in TLF (temporary housing) and don't know how long we will be here. Jon should find out on Monday. Ila loves having an appartment to run around in, rather than a single hotel room. We've been exploring a little and trying to get used to the sun. It is up sooner than 6, not sure when, and doesn't go down until after 10. We've been sleeping at all kinds of weird hours. I guess that's what we get for going through so many time zones so quickly. We went from Pacific, to Mountain, back to Pacific, and now to Alaska's time zone. They have fantastic curtains here that block out the sun. It's hard for me to want to do this because that's the first thing I used to do in the morning was open the blinds, and they didn't get closed until the sun went down. We have to make the sun go down sooner so Ila will go to bed. She has been so great through our move. I'm so proud of her. She didn't throw any tantrums while in the car, and that is a huge accomplishment considering how long we were in the car. She got a little crazy at night sometimes, but now that we have more space and no more long car rides she is back to being her sweet self. Alaska is beautiful. It's been about 55 degree's with lots of sun during the day. Perfect jacket weather. I'm kind of anxious to get into our house. I'm having an identity crisis. (not really) In Vegas I did daycare so I had a set schedule and had a very busy life. Here all I do is make sure Ila and Jon are happy and since we aren't in our house I have nothing to do besides the basic cooking and cleaning, but we still have the hotel cleaning ladies so I really just have to cook. I purposely waited to do my laundry so I would have something to do the next day. Can't do all the chores in one day, I've got to space them out. I'm so bored!!!! Combine that with our timezone issues and I'm just a little bit lost and confused. I'll figure it out soon enough. Right now I'm daydreaming about paint colors for our home. I can't stand white walls, especially when I know there wont be much sun in the winter. I need bright vibrant colors to make up for lack of sun.

We looked up our new ward and are excited to meet new people. I'm kind of sad though. On our first day in a new ward I've always worn my 4 inch heels. They are in a box, in some warehouse, waiting to be delivered to a house we don't have yet. So no 4 inch heels to meet my new ward in. It's so much fun to get all the looks of "she's so tall." I think it's pretty funny. Jon is proud of my height and it doesn't bother him at all that I am taller, or that I make myself taller on occasion. He's the best! People always ask me why I wear heels. Well I feel like explaining myself tonight. First of all, why not?! When you are in the upper regions of the shoe size department you will find that there are many, many ugly shoes. Especially the flat kind. It's only been the last 6 months that I've been able to find cute flat shoes. Before that, I could only find high heeled church shoes. I am a firm believer in wearing appropriate foot wear at church so naturally I couldn't wear any old non cute shoes and that would make it necessary for me to wear the only shoes I could find that fit my criteria, which also happen to have a 3 inch heel on them. So there you go. It's not like I choose to tower over other people, I have no choice. (except when I wear the 4 inch ones, they are a little excessive, and uncomfortable, which is why I only wear them on the first Sunday of a new ward.) I think Ila will LOVE nursery. She needs some friends desperately. She will start a conversation with anyone she comes in contact with and is very enthusiastic about it. She has started talking so fast that we can't always understand her. There have been many a cute grandma in the stores we have been to that start saying things like, "oh, that's neat" and "really" and lots of head nodding. When someone asks her how are you, she replies "I two" and then "the kids all wet, da da da da, all the time! I think she knows exactly what she is saying, but it's at super human speed so we can only pick up a few words when she is really excited and talking fast. I love my little girl! She has so much personality and spunk. We play the mommy's girl/daddy's girl game with her. Today she told me, I daddy's girl, that's right mom!! Well, she told me didn't she. Oh to fully understand a 2 yr olds mind.

Wow! What a trip. Glen and I both hope we can make a similar trek in the future. What troopers. You guys are awesome. Good luck with the daylight issue. Sounds exciting.
I was having fun dreaming of no chores while reading your post. I'll let you borrow some chores down here in Texas if you're still bored.=)
I love your 4 in heels welcoming tradition. Bummer that they're boxed away.
Enjoy your new adventure. ALASKA! Has a nice ring to it.

I'm glad you are there safe and sound. It must be annoying being in temporary housing, so I hope you get into your home soon. Good luck with your new life in Alaska!
